Input line reactors are essential for 6 pulse VFDs and DC drives. They reduce THDi slightly, protect the rectifier from mains disturbances and improve the True Power Factor.
VFDs without AC line reactors are typically 85-135%THDi at nominal load, depending on a number of factors, including the capacitance per amp in the DC bus. Installing a 3% AC line reactor results to ~36-40% THDi (5% source impedance).
A 3% reactor is mandatory for each VFD if harmonic mitigation by active filter mitigation is required. This is to compensate for the difference of source impedance and active filter impedance (1%) and the higher harmonic current.
For DC drives, 4% reactors are recommended to minimise line notching.
Standard range is 2-1000A, with higher rating in request. 380-690V, 50/60Hz. IP00-IP20 and custom enclosures available.

Harmonic Solutions Oil & Gas has the knowledge and experience
When applied correctly, filters are an important tool in the mitigation toolbox. However, no form of mitigation is perfect. The secret of success is recognising the pros and cons of all types of active and passive mitigation and being able to apply the most appropriate form of mitigation for any given application.
The staff at Harmonic Solutions Oil & Gas have been involved in applying active and series passive filters since 2003 to on demanding marine and offshore applications since 2007 with our site harmonics. PQ and site services.
